Job Title: Sheet Metal Fabricator 

Reports to: Sheet Metal Shop Supervisor

 

Summary/Objective:

The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for precision forming and fabricating.

Essential Functions:

  • Sets up and operates a wide variety of sheet metal working machine tools such as: punch presses, power and hand rollers, power and hand brakes, power notchers, hand notchers, shears, drill presses, riveters, related hand operated equipment, and other similar sheet metal working machine or hand tools
  • Sets up parts in equipment using appropriate tools and devices for forming, bending, blanking and rolling
  • Reads and works to the indicated accuracy, specifications and tolerances as detailed on engineering drawings, blueprints and sketches
  • Performs and makes simple layouts using calculations, squares, sine bars, tapes, height gages, rules, centers, dividers, punches, trammels, compasses, and other similar tools required for the construction of simple layouts for a wide variety of types and grades of materials
  • Performs assembly operations of fabricated parts and equipment, using bolts, screws, sheet metal screws, fasteners, rivets, and a wide variety of hand and power equipment required to complete the assembly operation
  • Works on round, square, oval duct and other miscellaneous sheet metal accessories
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Required:

  • 4-6 years of experience with sheet metal fabrication; or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
  • Ability to work with both U.S. customary and IS (metric) systems of measurement
  • Knowledge of duct connectors and seam like TDC, slide&drive, insulation stops, companion flanges and weld joints, Pittsburgs, pipe locks and standing seam
  • Aptitude to perform mathematical calculations to determine dimensions, locations, angles, sizes and shapes - Work from both written and verbal instructions
  • Experience with different types and grades of sheet metal, plate, bar and rod stocks with different tolerances and specifications
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available to work assigned schedules and extended hours as needed including day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:

Work Environment:

  • May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
  • May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights

Physical Demands:

  • This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
  • While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus

Travel:

  • May require travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred:

  • An apprenticeship certification or two-year technical degree in a Fabrication and Layout Program
  • Ability to operate forklift
  • Prior military experience 
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
