ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION - The Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) is a regional water reclamation plant serving four jurisdictions (Fairfax County, Prince William County, City of Manassas and City of Manassas Park).

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING - UOSA has an immediate opening for one Mechanic. We will consider applicants whose skill level range from entry-level (Trainee) to more advanced levels of experience (Mechanic I).

The Mechanic will perform or assist with highly skilled mechanical work in the installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of industrial plant equipment. Candidates at the Trainee level must have knowledge or the ability to acquire basic understanding of mechanical equipment or possess thorough knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in maintenance and repair of large engine-generator sets, all types of industrial pumps, furnaces and other heavy plant equipment at all other levels. Must be able to interpret and work from blueprints, maintenance manuals, sketches and diagrams. The incumbent must be able to work independently and without direction and supervision in order to successfully complete assignments.

Candidates will be evaluated and skill level determined during the interview process. To qualify as a Mechanic I, the candidate must have a minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial mechanical equipment maintenance and repair such as, but not limited to; gear boxes and drives, clarifiers, screw conveyors, furnaces, centrifuges, large gates and valves. The incumbent will also be required to have good welding skills in TIG, MIG and Arc welding and possess the ability to work in and around various types of piping and have the knowledge and ability to install all types of piping and valves used for moving liquids, solids and gases. The incumbent must possess a very unique skill set whereas understanding the relationships between flow, pressure and temperature are essential to everyday work and knowing how to perform work safely and correctly.

Mechanic II - Minimum of 4 years of experience in mobile, vehicular and industrial mechanical equipment maintenance and repair or related field is required.

Mechanic III – Requires some mechanical work experience, applicable trade school training is desired and requires passing a practical exam during 6-month probationary period.

The incumbent must successfully pass a hands-on, written and/or practical exam within a desired time frame. 


  • Completion of high school/GED program. Trade/vocational school training is desirable or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Possession of a vehicle operator’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of position to include extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting and/or carrying of up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in Permit Required Confined Spaces and to become Confined Space Entry certified.
