Job Title: Fire Sprinkler Design Trainee

Reports to: Fire Protection Design Manager

Summary/Objective:

This is an entry level position for someone who aspires to become a Fire Protection Designer.  This individual will receive extensive training in order to prepare drawings (i.e. layout from systems descriptions) for fire protection projects. 

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in design layout, field checking, fabrication listing, and material equipment submittals
  • Assembles submittals: product data, permits, drawings, etc.
  • Compiles stock lists, and prepare field installation drawings
  • Assists with closeout procedures
  • Attends various field related training classes
  • Completes sprinkler design trainee courses
  • Trains on third party (HydraCAD) sprinkler software that works in conjunction with AutoCAD/Revit
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Required:

  • 2 years experience using AutoCAD or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferably in a construction environment)
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to quickly learn new subjects and techniques
  • Highly organized and detailed oriented
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available to work assigned schedules and extended hours as needed including day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:

Work Environment:

  • Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment
  • Position may require visits to construction site

Physical Demands:

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines

Travel:

  • May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight)

 Preferred:

  • Revit design software experience
  • Working knowledge of HydraCAD sprinkler design software
  • Experience with 3D CAD program, BIM, and Revit
  • Knowledge of NICET
  • Prior or current experience working in the fire protection industry
  • Prior military experience
