Job Title:  Fire Protection Sprinkler Designer

Reports to: Fire Protection Manager

Summary/Objective:  Prepares design drawings for Fire Protection Projects.

Essential Functions

  • Perform hydraulic calculations
  • Design and specify wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, and deluge fire suppression systems supported by domestic infrastructure, fire pumps, and storage tanks on a wide variety of projects types
  • Knowledge of special suppression systems such as foam, water spray, water mist, clean agent, wet/dry chemical, and carbon dioxide a plus
  • Function as the design lead on multi-discipline projects and assist in preparation of
  • comprehensive fire protection packages
  • Must be able to complete design projects start to finish, while working independently
  • Develop complete Shop Drawings packages from contract drawings and specifications, for review by AHJ and A/E
  • Participate in BIM 3D Modeling coordination
  • Field verify shop drawings are workable
  • Compile stock lists, and prepare field installation drawings
  • Perform as-built reconciliation (field walk down)
  • Perform facility commissioning of fire protection systems and/or investigate system failures
  • Assist field personnel in resolving design related installation issues
  • Apply sound fire protection engineering principles to troubleshoot and solve client related issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility (Direct Reports Y/N) N


  • 2-7 years related design experience and/or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad drafting software
  • Working knowledge of HydraCad sprinkler design software
  • Experience with at least one 3D CADD program and BIM
  • Provide examples of large contract work awarded during career
  • Must have above average skill with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record, criminal record, and ability to pass a drug screen
  • Requires overtime as needed


  • Field experience a plus
  • NICET Level III or higher preferred
  • Prior military experience 
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent


May require infrequent travel
