Diesel Mechanic Job Overview:
A DIESEL MECHANIC maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records.
Additional Job Responsibility:
The Diesel Mechanic must be familiar with OSHA regulations in the marine industry, have mechanical knowledge of tools and machines, and be able to determine engine conditions by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. They must also be able to keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion, and be able to correct deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, fuel, and hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages. The Diesel Mechanic must have at least 5 years of shipyard experience, be able to obtain a Rapid Gate Badge, pass a pre-employment drug test and background check, and have a current resume. Also must have OSHA 10 or be able to attend OSHA Training.
